I have now also tried the same setup with a 100baseT connection. Just using
a X-cable, no hubs. I have yet to see a alignment error.. But instead I got:

de0: enabling Full Duplex 100baseTX port
de0: abnormal interrupt: transmit underflow (raising TX threshold to 96|256)
de0: abnormal interrupt: transmit underflow (raising TX threshold to 1024)

bash-2.01# ifconfig de0
de0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
        inet 192.168.200.12 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.200.255
        ether 00:06:2b:00:16:c6
media: autoselect (100baseTX <full-duplex>) status: active

The 'other' side of the connection is a Kingston card with a:

de0 <Digital 21140A Fast Ethernet> rev 34 int a irq 7 on pci0:9:0
de0: 21140A [10-100Mb/s] pass 2.2
de0: address 00:c0:f0:30:41:fb

This 'other' machine logged:

de0: enabling Full Duplex 100baseTX port
de0: receive: 00:06:2b:00:16:c6: bad crc

More data, more confusion (at least for me).
