OK.  I removed *ALL* of the devices that I wasn't using.  Seems like
any read/write of port 300 messes things up (or some other port that
something was messing with).  Once I killed all the SCSI devices (in
addition to the network ones that I had killed before), I was able to
get this card to probe.  Yippie Skippie!
