Well, I tried Justin Gibbs' suggestion of moving eisa_configure() to after the call to isa_configure() in i386/i386/autoconfig. The strip-down kernel (i.e., only essential devices) still hangs on my EISA system with AHA 1742 adaptor. Note: the system did not panic and drop me into DDB. It became unresponsive to any input. To recreate the problem, run iozone with a file size of 32 MB. -- Steven G.
