your description sounds as your machine has "forgotten" to forward
packets. Although you have the right gateway-setting in rc.conf, please
check manually, if "net.inet.ip.forwarding" has a value of "1".

Perhaps there's something later in rc.conf, in rc.conf.local or in
rc.local that resets this variable to "0"?
