That's very true.  

For comments in specific, though, it's pretty easy to make this
mistake, because there are so many different syntaxes that comments
can take in different kinds of files.  Missing the "no comments" line
in the manual isn't really a mistake; assuming that '#' turns lines
into comments is a bigger jump to make.
