Yea, sorry, I'm from Linux and they work in Linux and was hoping they'd
work in FreeBSD which they obviously didn't.  --classify is to show
what's a directory or a file and etc...

If you do "man ls", you'll see that --color and --classify are not
in the list of options. I don't know what --classify does, but
--color could be emulated with -G.
