What version of FreeBSD?  cua04 is named cuaa4 in 2.1.  2.1 is much
better than 2.0.5 so you should upgrade.

The error message means that the device doesn't exist.  This "can't
happen" because (non-PCMCIA) can't go away after they have been
detected at boot time.
