Window Media Player really plays many formats. Some you can play with 
mtvp (/usr/ports/graphics/mtv : MPEG)
some with xanim (several QuickTime formats)
some with avifile (/usr/ports/graphics/avifile): it uses Windows
decoder DLLs, so can play any format which is supported by WMP.
