It would simplify the bsd.port.mk change. I agree. But the intend of
this patch is to update to v8. It's a first step of several on my TODO
list. I don't know when and how I will address all of them, but some of
the items on the TODO list are:
 - move the actual RPM framework from linux-gtk/Makefile to Mk/
 - get rid of the old linux_base ports (first: mark DEPRECATED and
   hope that nobody whines)
 - update to something never than v8
 - fix the USE_X11_PREFIX mess for linux ports in a no-hack way

As you can see, the part which would be simplified by a repo copy to
linux_base-7 should vanish into the nirvana in the not so distant future
(not with this patch).

If there's a strong opinion to have the repo copy as an intermediate
step, I don't object, but I prefer to proceed without it.
