To be a bit more explicit, the version numbering scheme changed
between FreeBSD 2 and FreeBSD 3. In version two, FreeBSD 2.x.y was a
release, like FreeBSD 3.x and FreeBSD 4.x. I don't know if there were
ever point releases like 3.5.1 for 2.x.y, but they would have been
2.x.y.z.
