Tyler,

quite possibly your motherboard DOES have the controller chip, btu the
manufacturer elected to to actually include ports.  This does happen with
some manufacturer (I have seen it with Dell).  Most motherboard USB
controllers actually support 4 ports, but most computers have 2...why?
because they dont want to install all 4.  Maybe on your they chose to
install zero.

why does every os i have say i have an usb controller, but i can't find the
ports on the back???
