Thanks -- I'll do that if I can.  But if this year's experience is
like last year's, there will be very little time for actual thinking.
:-)

Apparently the dynamic linker is patching the wrong place (i.e., not
the jump slot).  Doug may be able to find the problem with a quick
glance at the alpha assembly language trampoline.
