Apart from maybe using echo instead of forking 'ls', and caching the
list:

while : ; do
  FILES=`echo *`
  if [ "$FILES" != "*" ] ; then
    for i in $FILES ; do $HOME/scripts/test-freebsd-cvs.sh $i ; done
  fi
done

it looks fine.
