A little more detail would be helpful.
For example, what directory are you in when you try the make, in other
words, what exactly is it you're trying to make?
Also, the "error code 1" is usually a generic error that cascades down
from a child process. If you use the script(1) command to capture the
process and then send the last few lines before the first error, it will
be immeasurably more helpful.
