One of the reasons for my initial mail is that I would like
to help with the Architecture Handbook. That is where I would
like to put the content of this thread as well as other emails
I have been reading/saving regarding locking/threads/scheduling.

When I started reading the Arch. Handbook I under estimated
the complexities involved in the FreeBSD kernel. It is a complex
piece of software and I am learning that it is not mastered
overnight, at least not by me. I am studying it though.

I believe locking is a good place to start and I am gaining an
understanding of it. Recent explanations have gone a long way
in furthering my understanding of how locking works in the kernel.
I hope I can take this information and glue it into an interesting
and detailed section in our Arch. Handbook. I regret that I am
not able to produce something more quickly; I simply haven't
learned enough yet.

Best Regards,

Duane Whitty
