I don't think it is a hardware problem.

Run this test on 5.1-CURRENT with:

options		INVARIANTS
options		INVARIANT_SUPPORT
options		WITNESS

and without any network and NFS optimization.

And this test was:

	for write:
	% dd if=3D/dev/zero /mnt/nfs/test bs=3D128k count=3D500
	for read:
	% dd if=3D/mnt/nfs/test /dev/null bs=3D128k count=3D500
