On an old iMac (macio 0x0025106b), I get a panic if ATA DMA isn't disabled:

Memory modified after free 0xda6c00(508) val=0 @ 0xda6c00
panic: Most recently used by GEOM

  This is after the ad0/acd0 disk messages are displayed.
