It's a strong warning.  lpd will totally mix up the jobs that have a
single spool directory, and handle them as they were for a single
print queue.

/var/run/printer is missing.  It's supposed to be created by lpd.
Perhaps it has been cleaned out by some /var/run cleaning in /etc/rc?
