I use the Omni.net TA with FreeBSD, and it works just great. What the TA
does is speaking ppp with the other end and translates async to sync ppp
and vice versa. It also handles bandwith on demand etc etc. I use iijppp
exactly as I used it with a modem, no problems.

About the serial cards, I took a serial card wich had maxium speed of
115k2 and exchanged the crystal to one with double the frequency. Works
with no problems. I tell iijppp to set the port speed to 115k2, and the
card is actually running at 230k4. I think most of the "high speed" serial
cards on the market today works in the same manner. You can clock-double
or -quadruple it. What ever speed you set your terminal to is actually
double or quad.
