I know that Nate once did this, to work around the problem that
syscons didn't handle the Thinkpad out of the box...  I'm not sure
whether sysinstall relies on some features of syscons.  To the least,
the keyboard mapping stuff wouldn't work.

I would rather love to see the bug fixed...
