I've modified a pair of Glen's 11 snapshots to use this patched bsdinstall

http://freebsd.bsdbasement.com/

I provided a bootonly .iso and a mini-memstick

both have the MANIFEST file removed, so bsdinstall will install whatever is the
latest snapshot on FTP without complaining about checksums

If those with machines that exhibit this issue could test the 'Auto (ZFS)' mode
in the installer and see if it solves the problem (it does a gpart set -a
active $disk'
