Well, Matroska is just a container, it can contain any number of
video/audio/subtitles etc. streams encoded by any kind of codecs.

If you think it's namely Matroska's problem, you can easily convert
it to anything else, e.g.:

ffmpeg -i input.mkv -c copy output.avi

and check.
