Your hardware ought to be OK.

On the whole FreeBSD is a bit more mature and well tested. In your case
that perhaps does not matter. You will not find drivers for every odd device you
have in your junk box but I believe the drivers that are there are VERY well
tested and operational. When it comes to X they are the same.

It takes heavy load better, but again that may not be of importance to you.
