I just cvs updated my /usr/ports/graphics/gimp-devel directory and
tried to do a portupgrade. It failed, saying that I already had it
installed. I tried a portupgrade -f ...., which failed similarly.

I did a manual make deinstall and am still stuck.

Now when I try a make install it seems to build and install everything
completely, but when it gets around to trying to register the package,
it seems to recursively spawn make processes until the machine grinds
to a halt (over 261).

Do I need to cvs update the entire ports/gnome tree and recompile
everything (a two day proposition?)

The machine is running:

FreeBSD rosebud.alerce.com 4.8-RELEASE-p7 FreeBSD 4.8-RELEASE-p7 #15: Mon Sep 29 20:48:22 PDT 2003 root@rosebud.alerce.com:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/ROSEBUD i386

And the ports tree represents a consistent cvs update except for this
one sneaky maneuver.

Anyone have any thoughts?

g.
