It will do. the text you are trying to print *must* be there, it's
just mixed up in a ton of PostScript commands.
You need to install ghostscript from the ports if you want anything
fancy, mind you if it's just plain text it should work OK anyway.
Which "regular Text Editor" were you using? Can you change it's
default printer to non-PostScript.
If you go ahead and install ghostscript (which would be a good idea
anyway) take a look at http://ukug.uk.freebsd.org/~mark/printer.html
where I've documented setting up an Epson Stylus 820. The stuff on the
first page you appear to have done already but follow one of the links
at the bottom (WP8 or StarOffice) for some info on using ghostscript
with Epson printers. It's not a ghostscript tutorial but it may be
useful to get you started.
