Hi all,

Futher investigation, if we select libgoto, configure doesn't use
-lalapack -lcblas; fall back to internal lapack.

So - Following patch worked for me (PentiumM).

Guilty part is `-lalapack and -lcblas'

Another investigation:
PentiumM(i386)+atlas hangs up following part
---
        @echo "tools:::makeLazyLoading(\"$(pkg)\")" | \
          R_DEFAULT_PACKAGES=NULL LC_COLLATE=C $(R_EXE) --slave > /dev/null
--
what is makeLazyLoading? I have no idea.

thanks,
