Yes, sound works for other programs. I use xmms to play music. But I do
not use xmms in the same time as xmame. If I do so I have the following
message : 

SDL: Info: Video mode set as 1024 x 768, depth 32
Using 16bpp video mode
Game uses 8192 colors
SDL: sysdep_display_alloc_palette(8194);
error: /dev/dsp: Device busy
/dev/dsp: Device busy
error: esound open stream failed

In the future, I will use multiple channels but not now.

No Xmodmap and my keyboard is

        Option      "XkbModel"      "pc105"
        Option      "XkbLayout"     "fr
