You really only should have needed to start mountd, without mountd
the nfs client can't get it's "starting point" to mount the NFS
exports.

a good trick is to run 'rpcinfo -p nfsserver.hostname' to make
sure you have mountd and nfsd running, you can also use showmount
to see who's already using the exports.
