What I tried once was YOUR patches, not whats in current, and I'm
pretty sure thats what Poul-Henning did too.

The bitrot might also be in your patches :), they are from feb 24
and lots of stuff has happend in this area since then.
Talking about bitrot, the DEVFS in current is YOUR code, but you
failed to keep it alive, show us that it will be better this
time, and belive me it will go in, infact thats a promise...
