I am pretty clueless at this point: please let me know if there's any more peeking around needed!
>How-To-Repeat:
Run portsdb -Uu on my machine: sometimes it hangs, sometimes it reboots, sometimes it panics (heavy disk load? haven't seen it crash any other time...).
>Fix:
Box was completely stable when running SCSI hard disks.
Problem only occurs since recent "upgrade" (gah!) to larger(, quieter, cooler, cheaper) IDE disk and during heavy disk I/O, therefore suspect ATA driver and/or IDE adapter/hardware.

Solution: throw IDE drive in bin & buy proper SCSI storage (but it would be real nice if I could fix it in the meantime...)
