	what you have included looks correct :)

	do you have crtscts enabled on /dev/cuaa1?   what about clocal?  
please check these by doing 'stty -a /dev/cuaa1'.  you have have a getty 
running on any of the ttydX ports?

	here are my setting for comparision:

	i am using a usr sportster 14.4.  here are the modem settings:

	as you have said, it sounds like ppp can not talk to the modem.  
i may have 'hung' waiting for a modem signal to be asserted.  this would 
prevent it from working, i believe.
