I've had this problem myself and the way I fixed it was the binary under the staging area worked fine, but the binary that it re-linked under the installed area core dumped. The solution was drop to a shell from the installer and copy the working binary of the same name from the staging area over the broken one in the install base (/home/oracle or whatever) Then exit your shell and continue with the install. There are a few resources, which were very helpful to me aside from the handbook http://www.lf.net/lf/pi/oracle/install-linux-oracle-on-freebsd http://www.scc.nl/~marcel/howto-oracle.html My problem is Oracle is installed fine, but I can't for the life of me get PHP to compile -with-oci8=/home/oracle .... It keeps telling me # apachectl configtest Syntax error on line 239 of /usr/local/etc/apache/apache.conf: Cannot load /usr/local/libexec/apache/libphp4.so into server: /home/oracle/lib/libclntsh.so.1.0: Undefined symbol "slpmprodstab" If you get PHP working with Oracle you *HAVE* to tell me what you did... I've been banging my head against a wall for a week. -----Original Message----- From: owner-freebsd-emulation@FreeBSD.ORG [mailto:owner-freebsd-emulation@FreeBSD.ORG]On Behalf Of Stan Brown Sent: Saturday, July 01, 2000 9:35 AM To: FreeBSD Emulation Subject: Help with Oracle 8 (Linux emulation) I am trying to install Oracle 8.0.5 for Linux on my FreeBSD 4.0 STABLE machine. Thanks to Marcel Moolenaar I realized that this was the version that the Handbook section talks about, and not the 8i version. Now that I have figure this out, I think I am _much_ closer to aking this work. I have followed all the steps in the Handbook, and I can get the installer to run and do it's thing. However once it reaches the point of trying to run svrmgrl to startup th db it fails. Jumping out to a shell I find that if I run svrmgrl, it core dumps. Backing up, I just isntalled the client side stuff, networking, and sqlpus. The installer scueded in doing this. However, when I try to run sqlplus, it also core dumps. I _think_ the problem may ne that this version is a libc5 version. How do I go about installing linux libc5 libraires et all on thsi machine? -- Stan Brown stanb@netcom.com 404-996-6955 Factory Automation Systems Atlanta Ga. -- Look, look, see Windows 95.
