I thought of that before posting the orignal query and have tried both of 
them. In the windows95 Control panel/device manager it is listed as a 
microsoft PS/2 mouse. But to be sure, i tried both of them. And no go,
I also tried the same mouse/motherboard on a Linux install and it works fine 
as a PS/2 mouse. But i dont really like Linux so that isnt a practical option 
for me.
