Well, I've sent a much longer email but nobody responded (?)
I'll copy some parts here:

I want to install freebsd maybe as replacement (on the long term)
for linux... so I am very happy with any help...

The install disc doesn't boot - it hangs right after detecting my dvd
and cdrom drive (the part after something with tick ... 100.00 msec)

I recieve errors like these when enabling verbose output:
(probe0:ata0:0:0:0): error 22
(probe0:ata0:0:0:0): Unretryable Error
(probe1:ata0:0:1:0): error 22
(probe1:ata0:0:1:0): Unretryable Error
(probe0:ata0:0:0:0): error 22
(probe0:ata0:0:0:0): Unretryable Error
(probe1:ata0:0:1:0): error 22
(probe1:ata0:0:1:0): Unretryable Error
(probe3:ata1:0:1:0): error 22
.....

I've already tried disabling acpi, removing one cd/dvd drive, removing
the floppy disk but nothing helps...

My hardware:
asus a7n8x deluxe
athlon 2500
1 gigabyte ddr 400
120 IBM ATA harddisk
.....

I've lost patience a bit... because freebsd boots
on my older computer (athlon 1700 running debian)
but I want to install freebsd on my desktop system.

note: i,ve already made free hd space with a windows tool:
my partition scheme:

               First Last

I have even tried pcbsd 0.6.... which also didn't work...
