This is really a FAQ of late. Check the archives for detailed explanation, but Mozilla has decided that Firefox is not the place for other things to get gecko and Firefox no longer is set up to allow building other tools against its gecko. The only supported place is now xulrunner. Until the latest version of xulrunner is ported, firefox2 is required. Work on the port is in progress. -- R.
