Hi Erik,
   Thanks for the reply.

Seems as if I'm mis-understanding something here, or not explaining
myself very well..,

After running cvsup stable-supfile, should there not be a *new* GENERIC
kernel for me to configure - located in /usr/src/sys/i386/conf?=20

I am at the step in The FreeBSD Handbook - pg 511 section 19.4.7:
Compile and Install a New Kernel, at the moment.

At this point I would have expected to have an up-to-date GENERIC kernel
to proceed with this step.

So, my query (in my mind) concerns a step before that which the kind
responses have referred to so far.,=20

Am I (have I missed) missing something along the way somewhere?

The GENERIC kernel I have after running make -j 4 buildworld does not
appear to be newer than the one I had there from the last upgrade I did
last month.

Hope this clarifies my query, if not (or if you require further info),
please let me know.

Thanks again.

Stacey
