Your graphics hardware seems popular enough to be supported, but check it out at www.xfree86.org. I think you're looking for support for "S3 968" if you don't see the name of your card. Try all of the many config options: XFree86 -configure; xf86config; xf86cfg. The "Xwrapper" is a common pitfall, but it sounds like you've jumped that. If all else fails, I suppose you could remove the 4.x package and install the 3.x one.
