 I was recently pointed at this PR, when helping someone else resolve
 issues with googleearth.  You must have AIGLX for google earth to work
 on intel/ati hardware.  You probably should be using the
 xf86-video-intel driver with your hardware, and updating your ports
 would probably help a lot.
