No it isn't.  They should both work.

+ Check the cabling of your cdrom drive, and disks.

+ Check if the cdrom drive is master or slave,
  and make sure it's jumpers are set to reflect that.

+ Try to mount a data disk, and not an audio disk.
  If it fails with a data disk, it could be that the disk is broken.
  Try another one, and see if it fails again.
