Things to check:

1.  `cat /dev/sndstat` and make sure everything is sane there.
2.  cd /dev; ./MAKEDEV snd0
3.  `dmesg` and check that the pas0 and sb0 are properly detected ( I
believe you must also have the sb0 driver in there too)
