FreeBSD is the most widely used, so there are more applications available, OpenBSD takes security to paranoia levels, & NetBSD appears to have a thing about working on any hardware platform. As far as I'm aware, only OpenBSD & NetBSD will work with SPARC hardware. FreeBSD is quite straightforward to install on a PC. The "official" documentation is OK for someone with a bit of unix experience (relatively technical) but there are several "user friendly" guides available. OpenBSD suffers from a very quite messy install routine but apart from that is essentially similar to FreeBSD. I haven't had reason to use NetBSD. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ping Crosby" <ping.crosby@ntlworld.com> To: <freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG> Sent: Tuesday, March 27, 2001 6:20 AM Subject: What is the difference between Free, Net , and OpenBSD? > Hi. > > I'm looking to install a copy of BSD on a PC and a Sun Sparc workstation. > I thought there was only one type of BSD but I have since found that > there are three types, Free BSD, Open BSD and Net BSD. > > What is the difference between these systems?
