Unfortunately, that particular manpage (along with man pr) serves as an
excellent example of exactly what I was *not* trying to find when I said
"clear, explicit user documentation".  It leaves one with almost as many
questions as one had to begin with -- if not more.  Luckily, Chuck Swiger
pointed me at something that I somehow overlooked and appears much more
useful; you apparently overlooked it, too.  I'll be checking it out to
see if it serves the purpose well:
