That's not periodic, that's your MTA. Periodic just sends it to "root"
(by default, anyway - it's settable in /etc/periodic.conf; see
/etc/defaults/periodic.conf for more info).

Nick's suggestion of pointing root's mail to where you want it via
/etc/aliases (or whatever your MTA uses) is probably the best one.
