dear sir: I'm a new comer of freebsd, before this, I workded with linux for a long time. Now I have a network problem about upload/download speed on my machine. It's a regular pc with IDE HD and 10Mb ISA NE2000 compatible card. The system is installed in the 'normal' configuration, becsuse I knew little about this OS. It worked fine, but just a little 'slow'. And here is what I found when ftp to/from a remote unix host: -- Remote system type is UNIX. Using binary mode to transfer files. ftp> mput *dbf ^^^^^^^^^upload files to remote host mput ph0026.dbf? y 200 PORT command successful. 150 Binary data connection for ph0026.dbf (203.70.70.14,40012). 226 Transfer complete. 11780736 bytes sent in 29.51 seconds (389.89 Kbytes/s) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^it's slow! ftp> mget *dbf ^^^^^^^^^download from remote host mget ph0026.dbf? y 200 PORT command successful. 150 Binary data connection for ph0026.dbf (203.70.70.14,40014) (11780736 bytes). 226 Binary Transfer complete. 11780736 bytes received in 12.71 seconds (905.24 Kbytes/s) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^it's fast! -- I can't figure out the real reason, so please feel free to give me any info. I DO have try the same test on my old linux box, and it's too bad that everything was fine. I also tried this on a high-end server equipped qith SCSI HD and 100Mb network card, but the result is almost the same. what causes the in/out speed differ? I DO have no idea. Thanks for your help!
