Are you saying the messages are reversed, i.e. when the link goes down it
says UP and when the cable is plugged in it says DOWN?

I can't reproduce this on my vr on a KT400 board from a late April kernel.
Note that the message may be delayed due to the way syslog works.

Is the media status correct in 'ifconfig vr0'?
