Well, if I knew what your school did then I could help.  

For instance, do you want to do SLIP or PPP?  (IMHO PPP is the better way
to go)

Do you have access to a ppp command on the remote to start the PPP
session?

Do you know the login sequence to start the ppp session on the remote?
