Not true!  I'm used it with several ATAPI drives.  Use the 'cooked_ioctl'
interface...

That technique didn't work very well for me under 4.3.  Running
cdda2wav as root lets me minimize jitter, and I can grab track by
track, or a whole disc in ten minutes or so.
