you're right, i did skip the make depend step.  it built on upgrades
without
so i ass-u-me-d it would here too.  i did try, however, to make depend
after
the first failure but it just failed again a little later in the build.
anyhow, now i know.  one more tool in the toolchest.  thanks a million
