Don't worry about it.  I'm pretty sure it's based on process group
ownerships and such, but it is harmless.  There is probably a way to
avoid it by running it with a controlling terminal or some-such, but it
wouldn't allow it to run automatically then.

What exactly was the problem with the modem not working?
