somehow i have gotten my vaio 505tx into a mode where
o at boot and without X or Win98, the screen is much smaller and in the
center of the LCD. i.e. the display area is about half LCD size
o stays that way once logged in as a user, or running as root, or in
    single user
o start X and it's fine, full screen
  o run Win98 and it's fine

it's kinda like i have the default video mode farbled. but i do not know
how to unfarble it. and i can find no FreeBSD or Win98 tools or hints.

clues?

randy
